Panting I looked up.
“I love this view. Any time you want to be spread eagle in my face is fine with me. But I really gotta pee. So you lovely, need to get up. I smacked her ass and rolled her off me. Running naked to the bathroom I heard her yell out, “Wait for me.”
I turned the cold water on and jumped into the shower dousing myself and my desire trying to control the glow in my eyes. Anita flung the bathroom door wide open and laughed, “Are you peeing in the shower?”
I pulled the shower curtain open and peeked my head out looking at her quizzically, “So what if I am? Does that mean you won’t join me?”
Anita laughed at my non answer. She looked me right in the eyes. Thankfully, the cold water had caught me off guard enough that they were no longer glowing.
“Rinse it down and move over. I’m coming in.”
Back in the bedroom the movie credits were playing. I looked towards Anita, “Sorry you missed the movie.” She wrapped her arms around me and lightly kissed me.
“You’re always so warm. I don’t care about the movie. Just hold me while we sleep?”
Anita sleeping in my arms I lay awake. Becca was calling out to me again. This time she was pissed. I’d blown her off two nights in a row and she didn’t know why. I’m going to have to find a way to tell Anita. I can’t keep blowing off Becca and keep this a secret from Anita for much longer. If I want to have a serious relationship with her she needs to know. The quickest way to end a relationship is to break trust.
Anita rolled in her sleep and murmured my name. She made little cooing noises. I snuggled her back into me. I’d have to find a way to tell her tomorrow. I should probably try to figure out if she even feels about me the way I do about her. If she isn’t looking for anything serious then I shouldn’t trust her with my secret.
I heard Becca call again. I slipped out of the bed quietly using only the balls of my feet. Walking past the living room I saw Buddy’s head raise up to watch me. He had a hopeful expression. He’d already heard Becca calling to me and wanted to go with me to meet her.
“Not tonight Buddy. Stay here and keep watch over Anita.”
He settled back into the couch his face resting on his front paws, his eyes following me as I walked towards the kitchen to go out the back door. I was already naked so I didn’t need to remove any clothes in the house to keep them from getting dirty. I stepped into the cooler night air and took in my surroundings. The moon shone brightly over the yard causing shadows of trees to dance as a gentle breeze flitted between the leaves of the forest. Behind the garage and the tree line I felt the beginnings of my form changing. My eyes glowed giving everything a dimmer quality. I no longer saw in the same colors as humans. Most things were in shades of grey except the moon. It was a bright shining yellow above me. I shook out my fur and stretched my new body. Peeking around the edge of the garage I took one last look at the house to check for any sign that Anita was awake. I detected no movement and took off at a run. Half way to the clearing where I knew Becca would be, I howled to let her know I was on my way. I didn’t want to call out to her too close to the house and wake Anita. She’d definitely wonder where I was if she woke up now and I didn’t have any explanations ready.
I caught up with Becca and we ran through the forest mostly hunting small animals. Not really in the mood to kill anything I just chased them down and let them go. Bored with the smaller animals that stand no chance against a wolf I turned on Becca and nipped at her. She took off , her paws slamming on the ground over and over. I chased Becca down and turned tail as she chased me in turn. Being more muscular than Becca gives me an advantage in fights when it comes to brute force but she’s more agile than me and can hold her own. When it comes to speed we’re matched well but with a head start I find it’s impossible to catch her if she doesn’t want me too. We didn’t say much. When one of us was caught it turned into a mini brawl. One of us would fly through the air connecting with the other in a tangle of limbs and lost air. Rolling on the ground until we were both tired and needed a break. I think Becca was just bored. Or maybe she was worried about me. Although, chasing and tackling me for hours on end with out so much as a question about my wellbeing or a single word of comfort wasn’t exactly a reflection of worry. After about two hours I ran back home. Coming out of the woods and stopping behind the garage out of view of the house I was exhausted. Still not sure what Becca’s intentions were but glad I met up with her tonight. She finally got my mind off worrying about Anita and how to tell her my secret. I changed behind the garage again out of view of any windows in the house. I was dirty and there were twigs and leaves tangled in my hair. Quietly making my way back inside the house I quickly washed off evidence of my run and slipped into bed. Holding Anita next to me I fell asleep.
Chapter 12 (Toaster Ovens)
The next morning I was awoken by the smell of bacon sizzling. I reached over and felt the bed next to me. It was cool and something clumpy was on it. I sat up and looked at the spot where Blue slept. There were little bits of dirt on her side. That’s weird. I didn’t notice any dirt last night.
I threw on one of Blue’s t-shirts; it came down just above my knees. I stopped in the bathroom and then padded my way quietly into the kitchen. I swear the floorboards didn’t even creak but Blue still looked up at me as I came up behind her. Wrapping my arms around her waist I went up on my tippy toes kissed her cheek and said, “I used your tooth brush, I hope you don’t mind. Also that smells divine, is it breakfast for me?”
“I thought we could eat, then go to the pond behind my house to swim and lay out. Becca left one of her suits here. It should fit you pretty well. You’re about her size.” She sat a plate with bacon and scrambled eggs down in front of me and grabbed hers taking a seat.
“This tastes wonderful. I’d love to lay half naked in the sun with you all day.” I grinned and took a big bite of eggs.
Blue gulped and said, “Great.”
I chuckled loving the way Blue reacts to my flirting. After we changed Blue whistled for Buddy and we all walked out to the pond. We had to pass through the tree line behind the garage. The pond was half the size of a football field. Tall grass sprouted up around the perimeter here and there but it looked like someone mowed the area surrounding the pond on a semi regular basis. Trees surrounded the entire area and I could barely even see the path we took through the woods to get here. The sun was shining brightly and the air was warm as it flitted across the gentle breeze. A perfect day to lay in the sun. The pond is definitely a well-kept secret. There was a small dock and a wooden raft anchored in the middle. I walked to the end of the dock and pulled off the t-shirt I’d worn over the black bikini. I hadn’t yet met Blue’s sister but apparently we were the same size because her bikini fit me like a glove. Blue stripped down to her bikini as well. It was a royal blue sporty cut with a black outline.
“So how do we get out to the raft? Do you have a paddle boat or something?” I asked looking around.
“No we swim. Just hold your towel above your head and swim out. There is a ladder on the side you can climb up to get on.”
The water was chilly as I slowly slid in not wanting to get my towel wet. Why on earth did I agree to get into freezing cold water? I stood about waist deep shivering and looked up at Blue contemplating just putting my towel down on the dock and laying there. She was ahead of me treading water where the pond got deeper. The water droplets on her shoulders glistened in the sun and she had a huge grin on her face. I realized in that moment that Blue, after knowing her such a short time, would get me to follow her anywhere.
As soon as we got up on the raft the sun was warm on my skin. I could feel the chill from the water already leaving my body and the raft was warm as I lay down. Blue lay down on her belly next to me. I could feel heat radiating off of her. We watched Buddy swim out from shore a few yards and back onto land, then get out run in a circle around the pond and repeat.
Content in an easy silence between us I was st
artled as Blue said, “I forgot do you need to go home and feed Larry or take him out or anything? You could bring him out here.”
“Nope I took him over to Phoebe’s before I came last night just in case I couldn’t make it back to the house. Larry and her get along great and Phoebe likes to walk him Sunday morning through the park. She says he’s a chick magnet.” I laughed thinking about the things Phoebe does to pick up chicks.
“No way she uses your dog to pick up women? What do they do when they realize she has to give him back?”
“They don’t usually realize until the next morning and by then she doesn’t care. Growing up my brother used to call her Phoebe Freebie. Because all the girls gave her one free ride until they realized she wasn’t looking for anything more and just using them. It mostly ended in a lot of tears and Phoebe getting smacked across the face way more times than I can count.”
“And are you looking for anything more?” Blue asked me with sincerity in her eyes.
I rolled to my side facing her and clasped her fingers in mine. “I think I am. I love spending time with you. You’re funny, incredibly sexy, kind and sweet. You make me feel special. I feel more comfortable with you than I ever have with any other lover. The sex is incredible. I’d be stupid not to try to make a relationship work with you just because you’re a woman. It’s different but I think that’s what makes it special. ”
Blue looked down, “But…”
“But nothing. Well I do need to figure out how and when to tell people I’m in a relationship with a woman.”
“A relationship huh?” Blue’s eyes got huge, “Like you want to date me? Just me?”
I laughed at her hopeful expression, “I’m not very good at lying and I’m to old to be sneaking around. I want to find that one person and settle down. Start a family. I’m sick of not making it past the first date. So yes Blue, I do want to date you. Just you.”
Blue leaned in and kissed me. It was a slow kiss and I could feel all of her nervousness slip away. I nibbled on her bottom lip and when she opened her mouth slipped my tongue inside. My breathing started to become shallow and I pulled back before things got to hot to stop.
I rubbed her now swollen lips with my thumb and dead panned, “Now if you could figure out how to tell my mother I won’t be marrying a man. Ever. You’d be the perfect woman.”
Blue rolled her eyes and laughed, “I’m far from perfect Anita and I can’t tell you how to come out. But I can tell you how Becca came out. Purely for an example of what not to do.”
Laughing I said, “Oh this should be good.”
She shook her head and preceded to tell me the story.
“Becca must have been twelve or thirteen at the time. I was nine or ten. First she started by throwing out every male Barbie doll we had and putting their clothes on some of the female ones. Then she set them up around the house in date scenarios. She even went as far as taping two naked girl Barbies together in the shower. My mother had no idea what she was getting at and besides she thought it was me. Becca had stopped playing with Barbies years before.
Frustrated, Becca started pointing out everything to anyone who would listen that reminded her of boobs or a vagina. Becca could see boobs or a vagina in anything. My mother thought she was just coping with her body’s changes. She bought her a book called, ‘What’s happening to my body? Book for Girls.’
Since that didn’t work Becca decided to bring out the big guns. She brought girls home from school and told them she’d practice kissing with them so they’d know how to do it right when they got a boyfriend. She must have kissed thirty girls that year and most of them with in my mother’s sight. Still my mother said nothing.
Finally, Becca’s class had to write an essay about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Becca’s was titled; I want to be a lesbian. She wrote about how she had already started practicing kissing girls. She wrote about how girls gave her butterflies in her belly. She wrote about how she stole our cousin’s girly magazines and looked at them at night. Everything and anything she could put in that paper about how she loved girls she did.
The teacher called my mother in for a conference. We both thought this was it. That my mother would finally get what Becca was trying to say. When mom got home that day she had put Becca’s essay on the fridge and went to do laundry. Becca and I both ran to the fridge and pulled it down. Mom had written on it. It said, ‘Yes dear I know you’re gay. It’s not a big deal. You should probably learn a little subtlety in the future if you don’t want the whole world knowing your business. P.S. spend less time kissing girls and more time paying attention to class THERE, THEIR, and THEY’RE all have different meanings’.”
I was laughing so hard I snorted. Embarrassed I covered my mouth. Blue’s eyes got wide and she started to laugh too.
“The moral of the story is to just be honest and forthright. The person whom you’re telling may just not care and love you anyways.” Blue put her hand on my knee.
Nodding I laughed. “And to always use proper grammar.”
We both looked towards the dock when we heard a splash but nothing was there.
“Must be the fish jumping or Buddy splashing in and out of the water.” Blue said nodding her head in Buddy’s direction.
Back on our tummies we laid there in silence. I thought about how I’d tell my mother. Maybe it’d be better to introduce Blue as my girlfriend and go from there. Maybe she’d understand and maybe she’d just think my friend who is a girl. If it were the previous she’d never make a scene in front of someone who isn’t family. If it were the latter at least I tried to tell her. Right? Actually, I’m surprised I haven’t heard from her since the cucumber incident.
The raft jerked. “What was that?”
“Hey! Hey! What the hell?” Blue yelled as she was drug away from me. Her arms flailed as she tried to grab anywhere on to the raft. A look of confusion spread across her face and she gave one last effort not to topple into the water. Off the side she went landing in the water with a splash. I leaned over the side looking for her.
“Blue!” the water was too muddy looking to see her so I yelled her name.
Her hands landed on the side of the raft and she pulled herself back up on it.
Her skin glistened, covered in water and the muscles in her arms were flexed with the effort of lifting herself instead of using the ladder.
“Two points for the splash landing. Ten points for the girly scream you just made.” I said as serious as I could.
She shook the water out of her hair soaking me in the process.
“Hey! Stop that!” I yelled laughing. “What the heck happened did you decide to go for a swim? Are you OK?”
“No. I had some help being dragged into the water.” She glared at the water mouth pursed with angry eyebrows.
Behind Blue a blonde head appeared. Arms just as muscular and tan as Blue’s pulled a petite blonde woman up onto the raft. She had on an orange bikini.
“You must be Becca. I’m Anita.” I held my hand out to her trying not to laugh. She had a firm grip.
“I’m afraid Blue said I could borrow your suit for the day. I hope you don’t mind.”
“Not at all. Can I assume that means that I owe my dear sister a new toaster oven?” One eyebrow arched, she looked over at Blue sitting cross legged next to me.
“Shut up Becca.” Blue scowled at her sister.
“I’m not sure what you mean?” I asked puzzled by Becca’s odd question.
“She’s just being crude. It’s an old joke. When a lesbian converts a straight woman aka ‘turns her gay’,” Blue made quotation marks with her hands, “she gets a free toaster as a prize.” Blue slapped Becca.
“Oh. I see.” I looked at Blue; she looked almost scared of what my reaction would be.
“Well then I think you may owe her an entire kitchen full of appliances.” I laughed winking at Blue.
Blue let out the breath she had been holding and laughed along with me. Yes, she was afrai
d of my reaction. Noted. I’d have to find a way to let her know I was comfortable with my change in orientation.
“I like this one Blue. Where did you find her? Do you have a sister? You’re sexy and funny. What ever do you see in this one?” She pointed her thumb at Blue.
Blue was giving her sister a stern look mixed with disapproval and a sigh of you have a point.
“What?” She lifted her hands up in the international gesture of question, “I’m older, more experienced, blonde and they do say blondes have more fun.” Becca grinned and lifted her eyebrows lasciviously.
I really needed to learn how to do that with my eyebrows.
“It’s official. I’m true to Blue as of today. But thanks for the offer.” I laughed at Becca’s attempts to rile Blue.
Blue leaned over and kissed me on the cheek apparently staking her claim. Normally, this would be something that would irritate me with the guys I dated. Like I was their property or something. Disgusting. But somehow coming from Blue it was endearing. Probably because it was done out of love and not as a way of asserting her ownership, either way it didn’t bother me, just another sign that my decision to date Blue was a good one.
“I guess I’m still on the prowl then. Do you have any friends that could earn me a toaster Anita?”
“Not that I know of. But my best friend is gay. Maybe you’ve met her. Her name is Phoebe. She’s short, has red hair, she’s beautiful and sleeps around.”
“Not that I can recall. Maybe you could do the honors of introducing me. She sounds like someone I should meet.”
